#WhyTheyWereThere: Landlessness and Other Social Injustices in Negros Island
Why were students, journalists, peasant organizers, cultural workers, and human rights advocates in Negros?
This webinar examines the situation in Negros Island, highlighting persistent issues of landlessness, rural poverty, political repression, and the ongoing struggle for social justice. It aims to deepen understanding of the economic historical, social, conditions that have shaped these oppression as well as the underlying causes of armed conflict in the Philippines.
As we remember those who lost their lives and express solidarity with displaced communities, we invite participants to critically reflect on the roots of poverty, the effects of militarization on civilians, and the continuing struggle for land, rights, and human dignity.
Because to understand what happened, we must first understand why they were there.
