Stop the bombing of rural communities. Uphold the International Humanitarian Law!
On April 2, 2024 the AFP mercilessly bombed communities with suspected NPA camps located between Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur, and Pilar, Abra. Such indiscriminate bombing caused the enforced evacuation of people in the communities and destroyed their source of livelihood.
The APCHRP vehemently condemns these dastardly and barbaric acts of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as it targets civilian communities and destroys the livelihood of ordinary farmers in the area. These are grave trangressions of International Humanitarian Law, considering that these acts continuously disregard the life and liberty of the local residents.
APCHRP calls the governments of United States of America, Australia and other countries, to stop funding and supplying military weapons to the Philippine government. Your military weapons are being used to spread violence and terror among the Filipino people, particularly in rural areas making your government complacent to grave and wanton human rights violations and disregarding International Humanitarian Law. Additionally, APCHRP urges all human rights organizations and freedom loving citizen across Asia-Pacific to condemn and to demand an immediate end to indiscriminate bombings perpetuated by the Armed forces of the Philippines.
More importantly, the APCHRP strongly encourages the Philippine government to resume peace talks with the National Democratic Front and address the root causes of social unrest in the country. The coalition strongly acknowledged the long-standing problems such as poverty, landlessness, unemployment, low salaries, and subserviency to foreign dictates like the US as some of the root causes of armed conflict in the country. Only by addressing its root causes social inequality, injustice and inhumane condition will be resolved and the Filipino people’s demand for just and lasting peace will be realized.
