Asia-Pacific Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (APCHRP) stands in solidarity with the workers of Nexperia Philippines Inc. Workers.
Since last year, the company has already unjustly terminated around 600 workers including union members who have been regularized already in the guise of performance issues. The layoffs which are motivated by cost-cutting and automation, underscore a major flaw in capitalism’s neglect of worker’s welfare. We reiterate, that job security is of paramount interest and shall not be hampered by any capitalist mechanism.
Hence, it is of no surprise that 1,246 union members voted in favor of the strike. This is a manifestation of the workers’ resolve to end any forms of unfair labor practices and any violations of their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The conditions of Nexperia workers are inseparable from those of workers around the world which suffer from violation of right of security of tenure, low salary, dehumanizing and exploitive working situation.
Evidently, the ruling class, which is hungry for power and wealth, is ultimately prevents them from promoting national industrialization. Even though workers form and operate factories, capitalists are shameless enough to remove them from their means of living.
APCHRP expresses its utmost support to the Nexperia Philippines Inc Workers Union – NAFLU – KMU (NPIWU-NAFLU-KMU) as they assert and fight for job security. The union’s decision to file a Notice of Strike is necessary considering that the management continuously refuses to address their grievances. The Nexperia experience proves that the only way for workers to improve their better condition is through organizing and fight for their rights.
Thus, we call on our friends, allies, and all other sectors to support and join the Nexperia workers as they assert their rights. The public has to amplify their calls as their struggles are not isolated but a reflection of the massive problem of the labor sector in the country which is enabled and furthered by the neoliberal policies that exploit and oppress workers.
