After Five Years of Injustice, Amanda Echanis Is Finally Free!
Today, January 14, during the promulgation hearing, the fabricated cases against Amanda Echanis were dismissed, and she was fully acquitted, bringing an end to a five-year ordeal of injustice.
Amanda is a mother, writer, peasant organizer, cultural worker, and a member of the National Federation of Peasant Women. She is also the daughter of peasant leader Randal Echanis, who was killed in August 2020 during the Duterte regime. In December 2020, she was illegally arrested together with her infant child, who was only a few months old at the time, on trumped-up charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
The coalition extends its warm congratulations to all human rights organizations and human rights defenders who continue to struggle and stand firm in the fight for justice. This victory proves that through collective action and united resistance, justice and freedom can be achieved.
At the same time, the coalition calls for the immediate release of all political prisoners, who currently number 696, with 163 arrested under the current Marcos Jr. regime. Justice for Randal Echanis and for all victims of state killings and repression.
Free all political prisoners!
